BJP is contesting on 13 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand. It has declared its candidates from 10 of them. A decision on candidate name could not be reached on 3 seats namely Ranchi, Chatra and Koderma. One of the seat on which there was absolutely no confusion is Dhanbad. P N Singh will be contesting for BJP from Dhanbad.
BJP has decided to once again give chance to P N Singh from Dhanbad and is willing to trust his vast experience. Three time MP, Former Jharkhand minister for education and industry Pashupati Nath Singh has been elected by the parliamentary committee once again to fight elections from Dhanbad. P N Singh has represented Dhanbad in 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha. There was a cloud hanging over his candidature this time due to age crossing 70. Refuting all rumors, he has been unanimously elected once again to fight on BJP Ticket. His victory margin in 2014 was the highest in Jharkhand. He started his journey in politics as a Ward Officer and is now contesting for a hattrick of victories as MP from Dhanbad. As soon as candidates’ names were declared, P N Singh said that BJP has shown trust in him and he would give his best to meet the expectations. He said that he is confident of victory and people will once again help him win the Dhanbad seat for BJP.
Dhanbad is a region with mixed population with Biharis, Bengalis, Gujratis, Marwadis and representation from Sawarn castes also. P N Singh is a Rajput. He has acceptance among all castes and people. He has been able to get votes even from non-supporters. BJP cadres’ votes are most important and Dhanbad is considered a strong bastion for BJP. Dhanbad and Bokaro are 2 urban areas and hence urban voters are also important who are mostly considered to be BJP supporters. Voters from coal sector play a major role in elections in Dhanbad.

The Central Election Commitee from BJP had a meeting earlier in Delhi on Friday in which decisions were to be made on candidates from all states. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, BJP Head Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitely, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Shahnawaz Hussain and other leaders were present at the meeting. Candidature for Jharkhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Goa and other states was discussed in the meeting. The meeting went on till late evening concluding only at 11pm. Jharkhand State comitee submitted its recommendations. Among participants from Jharkhand were Chief Minister Raghuvar Das, Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda, State Head Lakshman Gilua.
